Office Technology
In the last decade, new technology has radically changed the role of the office worker.
Today's assistant works at the center of a fast-paced, modern office in an environment
that is highly automated and complex.
Highly-skilled women and men of all ethnic backgrounds are choosing the field of office
technology and are finding that they are in constant demand. New workers have their choice
of employment in any geographic area in any industry. The new international business arena
also provides an additional and exciting avenue in which to use office skills.
Office support positions provide valuable training and knowledge and can be a stepping
stone to management positions. An administrative support position may be the perfect entry
level job in such areas as advertising, health care, law and education.
Predictions for the next decade indicate that positions will far exceed supply, that
salaries will increase considerably, and that diverse employment opportunities will be
more prevalent than ever.
However, as in any profession, the more education attained, the better the job and the
higher the salary that can be expected.
The Office Information Coordinator program is designed to prepare students for the
high-technology office environment.
Emphasis is placed on the office systems and procedures, general office applications
and administration, communications, word/information processing, computer and business
fundamentals and human relations skills.
