WHAT IS SELF-PACED COURSEWORK?

Self-paced courses are specific classes set up for flexible computer application training—students set the pace. Self-paced programs break the boundaries of the traditional classroom.

The ILC is an open entry/open exit instructional environment where classes are offered as self-paced/computer assisted learning modules. Students may enroll in one-credit classes until mid term. This format best meets the needs of students who are highly motivated and able to work independently to finish the course work within a designated period of time. Students are required to work a minimum number of lab hours for each class.

After registering for the class, students must attend an orientation session. Orientation times and dates are published in the course schedule for students who begin their course work at the beginning of the semester. Late registrants must contact the instructor to set up an orientation time. During orientation, students will establish their lab hours—day or evening. Students must establish a time to periodically meet with their instructor/grader to go over their course work and to take tests.

Day and evening hours are offered. Students are allowed to attend any time the Center is open. An instructor, educational assistant, or student assistant will be available to help students during the lab hours.
